The Economist agrees that we CAN win in 2012
The latest issue of The Economist includes an article exploring the landscape for marijuana law reform in Colorado and California. Following a brief summary of the medical marijuana scene, it mentions our campaign to end marijuana prohibition in a pretty positive light.
Now emboldened, advocates want Colorado to allow recreational use too, using a similar regulatory structure. Boosted by money from national organisations, a signature campaign is under way to put it to a vote in 2012 (a relatively easy thing to do) and the effort has already overcome two legal challenges. It might just pass; a recent poll showed 51% in favour and 38% opposed, even though some neighbourhood groups worry that Denver will turn into Amsterdam. [emphasis added]
Sure, it includes a silly mention of purported concerns about the initiative, despite polls that have shown support in Denver hovering around 67 percent. And yes, it fails to describe the unprecedented level of grassroots activity taking place on the petition drive, despite more than 400 individual volunteers and 150 businesses participating. But it does, however, acknowledge the most important point to be made: WE CAN WIN!
