Conservatives for 64: Former Congressman Tancredo, State Sen. Shawn Mitchell, and Colorado Republican Liberty Caucus announce their support

Former Republican Congressman Tom Tancredo – who just came out in support of Amendment 64 in a Colorado Springs Gazette column – joined members of the Republican Liberty Caucus and other local Republican activists at the Colorado State Capitol Building today for a news conference to formally announce their endorsements. The campaign also announced Republican State Sen. Shawn Mitchell's endorsement of the measure.

The following statement was released by Congressman Tancredo:

"I am endorsing Amendment 64 not despite my conservative beliefs, but because of them. Throughout my career in public policy and in public office, I have fought to reform or eliminate wasteful and ineffective government programs. There is no government program or policy I can think of that has failed in such a unique way as marijuana prohibition.

"By keeping marijuana illegal for the last 75 years, we have created a black market that helps fuel some of the most dangerous terrorist organizations in the world. Amendment 64 would take the marijuana business out of the hands of the drug cartels by regulating and taxing marijuana in a similar manner to alcohol."

The campaign also put together a video of Milton Friedman, a conservative Nobel Prize winner in the field of economics, explaining why marijuana prohibition will never work. Watch the video below, then share it on Facebook and post it on Twitter to help us spread the word about the conservative message for passing Amendment 64.
